I think you misunderstood my view on UN. UN is made of countries and politicians who are every bit as self absorbed and driven by self interest as anyone else including US. But by definition, doing what is in the selfish interest of majority is the same as doing the common good. More importantly, given that US is the strongest power in the world by a large margin, UN members can be persuaded with relative ease to establish legitimate international law that everyone including US is held accountable too. The United States does not want to see such a rule of law no matter how fair and equitable it may be. The reason is that we feel we are strong enough that we can do whatever we want so why should we give up some "sovreignty" (read the concession to do whatever we want). It is not that others are any more peace loving than us. But because we can force them into some very uncomfortable positions, other countries would like to see international laws established and upheld. My whole point, for months, has been that it is in our best interest as well as others to see to it that fair and equitable international laws are created and upheld. Sun Tzu
