christine - that makes sense about staying home.(g) i don't how i'd be about taking a child through the tenderloin. for most people i wouldn't think it was a good idea at all. since i'm familiar with the people there i'm more comfortable and might do it. it's tricky territory to negotiate. talking to street people who have gone pretty much out their heads is not for everyone.(g) and you need a sense of who's possibly dangerous. anyway, i quess i'm trying to say that i don't think of it in terms of being flexible or open, but sensible and protective of your child. a good choice. though i do have a pub to recommend if you can get down there on your own (maybe with husband at side). they 'might' give you a drink on the house if you say i sent you. right classy place, really.(g) do you have anymore news on the street closing idea? that sounds great. van ness seems kind of far to take it from the picture in my head. but it may not be as far from downtown as i remember. driving down market is something to be avoided anyway! jp
