energyplay, I know of conferences meant to be held in Shanghai in June now relocated away from Asia entirely, and so the impact is at least until June.

For retail businesses, as long as they can cut staff and renegotiate on rent, they can cover a bit of the damage and eventually recover a bit of the loss via pentup demand, for the hotels and airlines, the revenue lost today will never be recovered, and yet the bank and staff must be paid.

This SARS thing will likely prove most ugly for the economy, and may artificially cleanse HK of bubble excesses in a quick way, ala ingestion of financial laxative.
