Gary-- I deliberately, and provocatively, labeled you guys as anti-liberation as a response to being called pro-war. Nevertheless, you must admit that we warmongers seem to be correct in predicting the outcome.
The real test is whether future ogres like Saddam can be prevented. And the other real test is whether this liberation will curtail terrorism. In both cases, the votes are not in.
However, if I were to fantasize a scenario that would advance both causes, what has happened would be the almost perfect scenario. Saddam, unfortunately, had such a stranglehold on his people that they couldn't knock him off. It took an outside power to do it. The scenario would have improved had it been done by the UN. Notice, UN buildings are being looted by the Iraqis. That may indicate their contempt for the UN. If the lowly french and Germans had supported us, the scenario would have been improved by the liberation being international. The french and Germans failed.
Yesterday's NY Times had an article about france demanding UN control over the rebuilding of Iraq. Yet, merely months before, the french military invaded the Ivory Republic without UN sanctions. The french were greeted by "WE WANT AMERICA" signs. The Chinese are working feverishly to avoid the N. Korea issue to be discussed by the UN.
Yet, the liberators, the US and UK, are vilified. Gimme a break!
