Turkey's prime motivation is preventing an uprising amongst it's own Kurdish population which might lead to an alliance between them and the Iraq Kurds.


This is part of it. They regard the Kurds the way the English regard the Irish. But they were hoping for a chance to snap up the Northern Iraq oil fields, IMO.
