Just an observation....but I think the word democracy is way overused. Our system isnt a pure democracy (nor do I think most people wish it to be).

I agree with this. But our general conversational use of the term is majority rule. Given that and given that the Bush administration has sold this invasion to the American public as a way to install democracy in Iraq, it will be very difficult to say to them that it's not majority rule. How do you say it's okay to elect folk. Just make certain we (the US) approve of the folk you elect, however distantly removed our hand appears to be.

That rhetoric pushes the expectations way too high. And there generally are prices to be paid for making them such. Moreover, the degree to which the US in this region has favored democracy is not good. First time the Bush administration says to the Iraqis some form of the above, the response will be something like, "there you go again."
