I checked with our office in Shanghai on what the local news was saying there, and the newspapers say the virus is under control and is not a danger to the people who are traveling to the Guangdong and Hong Kong areas. That's the official Chinese government position.

Our office is sending several middle management people (Chinese)to the affected area next week, and I'm a bit ambivalent.

They have access to US newspapers there and US and BBC news on the internet. If they believe the local government, let them take a chance. I can't protect someone from their own stupidity. Nobody has to go on this trip if they don't want to.

I was actually originally going to that area at the same time until my schedule got busy here. I'm not sure if I'd have gone or not. I originally wasn't worried, but after reading yesterday about that one super-carrier woman in Singapore who infected 100 people, it makes me think twice.
