Respiratory Illness Caused by Cold Virus, Studies Say

Boston, April 10 (Bloomberg) -- A new strain from the family of viruses that trigger the common cold is responsible for the respiratory epidemic that killed 111 people, researchers say.

The strain causes severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, say investigators from the World Health Organization, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The disease has infected as many as 2,781 people worldwide, health officials say.
