As I recall, Iran was under a SECULAR dictatorship, too, prior to Khomeni. Iraq may not be an Islamist state, but I'll bet they weren't Presbyterians I saw hauling the 27" Sonys down the street.

In terms of extreme poverty and need, Iraq is one of the most economically advanced of the Muslim nations. I'm quite familiar with Lord of the Flies, as well as human nature. To quote Kate Hepburn in the African Queen, "human nature was what we were put on this earth to rise above". I'll make the argument that it's human nature for us to try to make a buck selling Happy Meals and Baywatch reruns to these people. They sure as hell don't look at it that way.
