Ted,
At the time of the Kosovo war, I thought the NATO treaty permitted calling a war whenever some of the members felt threatened by ongoing instability in the region. I believe it was you who pointed out the error of my understanding.
Well, the defensive vs. offensive nature of NATO treaty is one part of it, but the other part, the part about members being threatened, the closest NATO member to the "action" is Greece, and they were the most reluctant of all to even go along, and let the US use their ports, and it is a far cry from initiating anything.
Action of Kosovo was aggressive, offensive action, the same way the war in Iraq was. The "threat instability" is actually weaker that the stated goal - thread of WMD.
However, there is another element at play here.........I trusted Clinton to do the right thing. I don't trust Bush at all. His way of thinking.....your way of thinking is very foreign to me.
Which was my original point.
Its not ideological or partisan but rather something else.
The "trust" and ideology are related, since generally, one gives a lot more slack to a person who is the representative of one's ideology than to someone who is a representative of opposing ideology. I definitely do.
