(2) It is understandable in human terms (rather than religious) that a sudden collapse of authority, especially following a long period of poverty, should be followed by the scenes of looting we all watched on TV. Iraq is one of the most economically advanced of the Muslim nations No, it's not. A closed economy under more than a decade of sanctions would have trouble "advancing" even if it were not under a rather selfish dictator with a soft spot for palaces and golden water basins. I'll make the argument that it's human nature for us to try to make a buck selling Happy Meals and Baywatch reruns to these people. True. They sure as hell don't look at it that way. Who's this "they"?
