In China nobody believes the Americans made a mistake bombing the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade. The common sentiment is that it was intentional - part of a plot. They believed president Bill Clinton was not part of this plot, nor was his administration, but somebody had bombed the embassy on purpose. The Chinese had long admired the Americans and their technology to the extent that they could not believe they were capable of making such a stupid mistake.

Is this really true ?

Because it doesn't make a shred of sense that we had anything whatsoever to gain by targeting the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade, unless the writer implies by this that it was an isolated nutcase in the Army that did it. But then that doesn't reflect anything more about the US than Tim McVeigh and in any case contradicts the statement about "Americans" not making a mistake.

PS whatever happened with all those spy microphones in the airline China bought a while back ?
