they [Israel] provide a democratic presence in an area which is alien to the idea of democracy or individual human rights. Thus, they provide an example, or alternative, of what could result economically, socially, and politically, were the muslims to focus more on their own economic and individual prosperity And Turkey doesn't? :-) Turkey is a democratic country since its foundation some seventy years ago. And it is a Muslim country neighbouring Iran, Iraq, and Syria. It provides a much better example than Israel. Just how do you feel Israel provides an example, something to admire and aspire to, to the Muslims of the region while they rather brutally occupy Palestinian territories? US assistance to Israel is combined with US assistance to Egypt How are the two "combined"? which essentially keeps both nations from blowing one another off the planet. Not sure what you mean by that. Tell me what benefits from these non-democratic governments which continue to pervade the region?? You are asking me to justify a point that I have never made. Am I to try to imagine why someone who believes such benefits exists and then tell them to you?
