Turkey is a democratic country since its foundation some seventy years ago. And it is a Muslim country neighbouring Iran, Iraq, and Syria. It provides a much better example than Israel.
It does? Turkey was a creation of Ataturk, who installed a military dictatorship to make the transition from the Ottoman Empire to democracy. Did it work? To an extent. But the military has always loomed behind the government, ready to ensure that the democracy stays on track, by coup, if necessary...
There has NEVER been a military coup in Israel.
There have been THREE military coups in Turkey.

Now tell me which country provides a better example of democracy in action, Turkey or Israel??
"which essentially keeps both nations from blowing one another off the planet."
Not sure what you mean by that.
Then, not to be patronizing, you need to read a little bit more about the Camp David accords of 1979, where the US pledged to provide foreign aid to BOTH nations, as a condition of achieving peace between them. Egypt, after Israel, is the largest recipient of US foreign aid.. AND HAS BEEN since 1979.
You are asking me to justify a point that I have never made. Am I to try to imagine why someone who believes such benefits exists and then tell them to you?
Can you dance that well in a ballroom?? Maybe the Tango or something?? I didn't ask the question about Israel, but I provided you an answer upon your request.
Now please provide me mine... If you're capable of defending the indefensible.. :0)
