Maybe it's just because I live in Toronto but I have a vivid memory of a fellow Torontonian who wrote something about this:

The Medium is the Message!

Television is primarily visual and thus the message is always a dramatic picture. The human visual system responds to motion over static images, so television present rapid changes. The world as seen through television is a rapidly changing world of dramatic images. Television is a broadcast medium so the message is an aggregate of many points-of-view - an average. The world seen through television is a rapidly changing world of dramatic images representing the average position of a mass audience.

In the US today it seems that you have a mainstream small 'l' liberal news network - CNN - and a mainstream small 'c' conservative news network - Fox. They each present a rapidly changing world of dramatic images that represent the average position of their audience.

End of conspiracy. Exactly the same holds for Al Jezeera.

Americans today consume more information from more places with more diverse opinions than any collection of human beings ever. People who argue that Americans are getting a dumbed down parochial view of the world are not paying close enough attention to reality. One suspects them of being, well, parochial.

Perhaps Mr. Jensen should start the SourPuss network to get his position heard. It sure worked for Rush Limbaugh.
