Zonder-- You missed my point. Of course, it was preordained that the US would win the war. What was not preordained was that the US would be welcome as liberators and not as invaders. Your posts consistently claimed we were not invited and my posts claimed that if the Iraqis were given a chance, we might be invited to overthrow a tyrant and murderer.

The case is far from closed and there will be twists and turns, but the question, IMO, is whether the world and the Iraqis will be better off with Saddam disposed than his ruling. I'll still claim that those of us who were pro-liberation are correct.

The issue of a preemptive war is not as simple as that. Given 9/11 and the determination of some groups to commit mayhem in the world, the war had begun. It is absolutely clear that without 9/11 there would not be an invasion of Iraq.

Soon we'll see if Iraq had WMD and contacts with terrorists. However, altho I am not a Bush fan, the doctrine of holding those nations who harbor terrorists accountable is necessary. I would argue that this war was a reactive war--to 9/11--and that the french and Germans failed to react.

However, given Saddam's history of crimes against humanity, which are becoming ever more apparent, the world should have taken action and not left it to the US alone. IMO, the narrowness of this alliance is a tribute to the USUK and the failure of the rest of the world. It seems Iraqis agree.
