Sam, Thanks for your response. I agree with your point about Ma Bell. Comcast is certainly not sluggish, and it does have competition via satellite TV and ADSL.

I think it has inherent strengths vs. the competition. I think they can and will compete with satellite TV on price, and they will offer the interactive capability that allows you to pick your own program. Satellite TV would have to do this over a phone line.

I also think that cable broadband has inherent advantages over DSL. Distance from the "node" is one, as dsl is limited to about 3 miles. I also think you will pack more bps into a fiber than into 2 copper wires.

You made my other point: Cable TV and broadband have become defacto "necessities", almost as much as electric, gas, or phone service.
