It is a success story, so far. Afghanistan is a basket case, and it is going to take slow, painful years to improve Afghanistan from a bombed out crater into a third world nation.

Progress will come. It will be painfully slow, but it will come. I think that you are looking for a simple solution to a complex problem.

Iraq has got great oil resources, which can be used to support the rebuilding effort, so we have more of a chance for success there.
Regardless, changing Iraq into a peaceful democracy, with individual rights is a very difficult job, with many risks. It is not going to be easy, and we might not have a complete success.
But....... the great victory over one of the world's most brutal tyrants is going to pay off big, for the free world in the battle against terrorism. Terrorists and those who support, harbor and finance them will always have to look over their shoulders to see if America is coming after them, and they will be constantly listening to see if they hear America's footsteps.
