Many of the natives in North America were eliminated, i.e. killed off, by the immigrants to the new world. Those who survived are in long term court fights with regard to their land, water rights, mineral rights, funds from minerals and natural resources that have been lost or unaccounted for. Those who survived managed to get pieces of lands that were deemed uninhabitable at the time when they were ousted from areas with agricultural potential or where there were gold mines. Most of these native Americans live at poverty level and also rely on welfare checks from US government. Those who have at least 50% native American blood and want (and) try to get to mainstream are still being subjected to discriminations. Oh well, such is life.
