The 2% that would vote for Buchanan are not going to be voting for Bush anyway. Arguably, a Buchanan run would probably hurt the Democratic nominee more than Bush. I may have to send him a check. What makes you think that we are in a "severe recession"? The consensus is that we had positive GDP growth during the first quarter, which is kind of amazing given the uncertainty in the world. Please be more precise with your language. TIA
