The difference between no electricity and one outlet is HUGE. And the difference between 4 hours a day of running water and none is the difference between (usually the women and children) walking long distances carrying heavy containers of water, and filling up your containers daily at home.
If the family's source of water was only short distance away, say a few yards, that change might be not so enormous. But often in rural places, families, usually the women and children, of course, have to walk remarkable distances to carry home heavy buckets of water.
Anyway, that progress is very significant. But still, being used to the first world, she must have been exceedingly relieved to get back to air conditioning and hot baths.... |
