Ransacking museums is another part of war. It happens often...nothing new.

All the more reason that a few American guards should have been posted IMO.

This rampant anarchy and looting of the museum, hospitals and everything else is a real stain on our mission. We're supposed to be convincing a skeptical world and country that the American invasion will improve the lot of Iraqis. This looting has done more damage to Iraq than the bombing.

The public relations damage is enormous, and the damage to our ability to work with the Iraqis to establish a new government is too. We topple a dictator that evil, and the immediate result is the country is much worse off, with no protection of public safety or property.

All the Arab countries are essentially run by strongmen, whose clique prospers while the rest of the country doesn't. We're trying to convince them that democracy could work there, and they say these people need the strongman. This insane anarchy is making a great case for the strong man.

I understand that the military's first job is to win the war. If they can't decide to detail soldiers to civilian guard duty, the civilians in the Pentagon and Whitehouse sure could and should. And loads of military police should have been available by now (don't these guys bookmark LindyBill?? ;-) )

What a glorious start to winning the war, and disastrous start to winning the peace.
