I'd like to suggest you know nothing about the subject under discussion.

it was not designed as a spy ship with no guns.
True.
The USS LIBERTY was a freighter
.......................................................
In 1964 it was refitted as a technical research ship for the National Security Agency.
............................................................
The ship had no armor and was armed only with four 50-caliber machine guns, two forward and two aft. For protection it relied upon the flag it flew and upon being recognized by any observer as "in a surveillance mode", i.e. it was not a warship and was remaining in international waters. It was easily recognizable as an electronics listening ship because of the large amount of electronic gear visible on deck and superstructure. This gear, including a tall Trescomm tower amidships, gave the ship a silhouette unlike that of any other ship in the world.

That's QUITE different from the heavily armored warship you originally claimed, isn't it?

that is fine but that also implies that Israelis were not aware of friendly ship and that is the bottom line.
That does NOT give the Israelis the right to sink any ship they find in international waters. Period.

It also implies that US may not wanted Israel to ba able positively identify the ship, you know you can not hide the ship.
THe ship was flying the United States flag. A large flag. And it's number was prominently painted on the hull. That number was in Jane's Fightring Ships and identified it as a US gov't ship. And they sank it anyway.

From the above link:
The ship had its identification number, Gtr5, painted in l0-foot high letters on the bow. This id. number is prominent and visible in all photos of the ship both before and after the attack. The ship also had its name painted on the stern, and a large flag flew from the forward mast. These facts are important because Israeli spokesmen would later claim that the ship had no flag or other marks of identification.

LIBERTY was listed in JANE'S FIGHTING SHIPS as a non-combatant.

mostly you are a fair guy, true, but it seems that your mind is somewhat closed on the liberty issue
And I'd suggest you are seriously ignorant of the facts of the matter. And determined to prove it.

the other one is expect to be shot at in the war if you follow the previous rule
Let's get this straight, OK? EVEN IF YOU ARE AT WAR, you do not get to sink any ship you sight. You are required to identify it and verify that it is an enemy ship.

are you saying that it is ok for us to spy on Israel but not other way around? yes?
Everybody spies on everybody, Albert. Fact of life. If they are diplomats, they are legal spies. If they are not, you can execute them if you find them.

"The United States and Israel worked together to investigate the Pollard affair. The Israeli inquiry revealed that Pollard was not working for Israeli military intelligence or the Mossad. He was directed by a small, independent scientific intelligence unit. Pollard initiated the contact with the Israelis."
Oh. I see. So you're telling me that an American spy that works for US Naval Intelligence is not a spy, but if the works for the CIA, he is?

you have a luxury of saying that but israel was fighting for survival.
A spy ship does not look at all like an electronic surveillance vessel. There are all those antennas sprouting all over the place....

And are you saying Israel had the right to sink anything afloat? Yes? No?
