the point was that Israel did not know that it was friendly ship. If I would be an IDF commander I would assume that I would be notified if frienly ship would be approaching Israel.

You may think it is idiotic but by the time the planes "took hostile actions" it was already too late. Now those airplanes would be shot down regardless of the markings or weapons because of the new knowledge of the enemy.

read above, Egyptians would fly american flag if it would get them closer to the shore. Israel, as it should have, relyed more on communication rather than markings

no the point was that it was not identified as friendly. Just because it put on white hat did not make it a good guy, Israel relyed on proper notification for positive ID. Israel was aware that there was a hostile ship in the waters but it was not aware of friendly. So when the ship was found it was attacked regrdless of colors. Israel fires on targets with Israelis marking as well if they are not properly identified by other means. This is because arabs use red crosses, blue david's stars and whatever they can come up with to fool IDF.
