Well obviously you're not familiar with the 'Commerce' department assault against our forestry here

1 - I was talking about Iraq. That is a separate issue.

2 - Its a trade dispute not an attempt to control Canada. I don't support the administration on this but its not a case of diktat imposed by force of arms.

the numerous threats made on us by various parties including the ambassador Cellucci

Your right about that, I am not aware of any statement by ambassador Cellucci. Why don't you enlighten me.

'The UN is not sovereign over other states.'

But the US is??

No. There is no sovereignty on a level beyond the nation state. Its basically the law of the jungle. Nation states can sign agreements but there is no court to rule on them or in the few cases where there is some sort of international body to make rulings there is no effective international enforcement mechanism.

put yourself in the place of a non-US national Tim, or even in the place of a US national who does not accept the principle of direct rule of the planet from the back rooms of Washington

I don't have to work that hard on that. I am already in the 2nd group. I don't want the American federal government to try to rule the world. I also don't see the US federal government as trying to do that.

what rational people of my acquaintance think, is that projects like the invasion of sovereign nations should not be done on the Diktat of the rulers of any single other nation, such events can be legitimized only by a reasonable quorum of democracies who have debated the matter and decided on action

If the action itself was wrong that wouldn't change because some quorum of democracies decided it is ok. In any case the UN SC isn't a quorum of democracies. China has a veto and its hardly a democracy.

it's not that difficult militarily to link up with israeli tanks from where they're at now, and that's unlikely to be the end of it either, real neocons want to roll tanks on Tehran

The chance that the US will try to invade both Syria and Iran is barely above 0%. The chance of an invasion of either without further provocation is extremely low.

I supported the invasion of Iraq but I see that as a special case for several reasons. If the US just runs around invading country after county I will join you in your opposition to the Bush administrations foreign and military policy.
