You may remember that the "Brotherhood of War" series opens with a tank action at Kasserine Pass. I hear Atkinson gives a lot of inside info on the American Commanders, which interests me. Atkinson gets better. Classic bit of needing 100 pages to get into the flow. Read another 100 last evening and it's almost, but not quite, at that "can't put it down" stage. Lots of terrific new information. At least for me. The US military wanted to go straight through France to Berlin. One mad dash. When Roosevelet overruled them, followed Churchill's advice to go through northern Africa first, many military leaders considered resignation. Eisenhower was furious at Roosevelt. Damn civilians.
