ARM Holdings PLC reported a drop in first-quarter revenue and further progress on cost control but maintained its downbeat outlook. The U.K. company, which develops microprocessor technology for semiconductors used in devices such as mobile phones, said revenue fell 26% to £31 million ($48.7 million) from £42.1 million a year earlier. Pretax profit, after write-downs of investments, slid 61% to £6.1 million from £15.7 million. Net profit fell 61% to £4.2 million from £10.8 million. Licensing revenue slid 23% to £12.1 million from £15.8 million for the fourth quarter. Royalty revenue increased 33% from the previous quarter to £10.3 million, as new licensees shipped products. ARM said it doesn't see "any improvement in the circumstances that have given rise to slower licensing activity."
