Good question. That was a whole other world then. Before mankind had the atom bomb and before we had a strong international body like the UN. The point is at some point mankind needs to say enough is enough, we're going to settle our differences in a more civilized manner then war and killing. Perhaps WW2 wasn't that time. But, we have to start somewhere and there's only one government that we can influence to achieve those ends, our own government. We should lead by example.
