Depends on how you define "derogatory".

That was a word in the definition you posted for "cult of personality": A cult of personality is a generally derogative term to criticize the worship of a single leader

Apparently even translating a book critical of Ataturk must be met with imprisonment.

They also imprison people who speak against the state, who "disrespect" the flag and the money (literally, it is a crime). Welcome to Turkey, a close ally of the US.

In this background, I hope you will see that insulting Ataturk being a crime does not go a long way to prove your "cult of personality" theory.

Destroy the man and you destroy everything he envisioned and stood for

Hardly true in Ataturk's case. He is known to be an alcoholic (actually died of sirosis) and a womanizer.

Ataturk is probably rolling over in his grave at the notion of Islamists running the Turkish government

I am getting tired of saying this, but the current lot of useless slobs running Turkey are hardly "Islamists". They are "Muslim democrats" - conservative and religious in their own way, but with no wish to change the democratic tradition of the country nor install Islamist institutions.

Some years ago, there was another, more fundamentally religious group of guys running Turkey and they were Islamists for sure. They got to power with less than 30% vote, and did not stay for long. Turkey is just not a religious place.
