For those still paying attention. QLGC announced their 64-port switch yesterday. I think they may have hit the sweet-spot with this switch for several reasons.

1. It's small in that it only takes 4U of cabinet space. (For anyone trying to squeeze boxes into limited cabinet space, that's HUGE.)
2. It's scalable using 8 port blades.
3. It's High Availability. (99.999%)
4. The blades are hot swappable.
5. The same chassis will hold 4Gb and 10Gb blades.
6. The price per port seems cheap although I'm not sure I understand this. The press release says that it's "starting price" is $25,999 MSRP. If that's the full 64-port configuration then it's only $406 a port.
