Gore is a goof. 2000 was certainly the end of the strongest economy in decades. Gore had plenty of wind in his sails and still couldn't capitalize on it and take the Presidency in 2000. Lame campaign. I think people were suffering from Clinton fatigue and were looking for a change. Especially down South. That's why the South went solidly for Bush. The Clinton years were a nightmare for many Southerners who strongly support the military and are pretty socially conservative overall. You're right. Gore just didn't give people a good reason to vote for him in 2000.
