I don't know that he said THAT. I was simply referring to the fact that he insisted we should get the UN involved, which we did. While he never backed off that position specifically, he softened his position later on saying something like, "I disagreed with the administration when they were talking about 'going it alone'; after they got the UN resolution I have fully supported their actions".

If he DID say that we didn't have the right to invade Iraq, he was totally wrong; we had every right to do so and it obviously turned out to have been the right thing to have done.

This idea that you need UN approval to conduct a war is ridiculous. So far as I know there are only a couple of times ANYONE has ever seeked UN approval for a war (the United States and Great Britain are the only governments ever to do so).
