If a few airlines go under because we stop coddleing them then air travel will continue and maybe eventually become profitable. If we keep pouring on the subsidies then it will also be a losing industry.

With the exception of SW and a couple others, airlines have never made money. They are just too capital AND labor intensive, and they've found themselves in a self-inflicted trap whereby many passengers are flying at prices that cover only the variable costs of operation.

Throughout history, the number of major airlines failures is phenominal. Braniff; Eastern; TWA; these problems date back to the earliest times of airline existence.

I prefer to let the Donald Trumps of the world put THEIR money into them...
