Chirac and schroder are now non grata in the EU. Esp chirac. They got the union into this mess and the other natins aren't going to let them forget it. Chirac's desired 'leadership' of the EU is now a fast-fading dream. Spain and Britain will likely come to the forefront as will the eastern euro countries. The economies of france and germany are in shambles, and this doesn't help. They tried to use the iraq thing to deflect domestic attention away from their huge econ woes, but it didn't work.
