The aggressive stance toward Syria, which certainly supports terrorism aimed at Israel but has a less definite connection to terrorism aimed at the US, will inevitably strengthen the perception in some quarters that Bush is acting on behalf of the Israelis.

Those who believe that the Israelis were behind 9/11 believe that already. Syria's connection to Hizbullah is definite enough, and Hizbullah is opening branch offices in South and North America. Also, I don't think the Marines have forgotten their dead from 1983.
