paret,

Re: QUESTION: Where Are the Human Rights Groups?

You might suspect that they haven't been quite as suckered by this propaganda as they once were. The Bushies lost a ton of credibility in the run up to the Gulf War in 1990 when they used a sound stage at the public relations firm of Hill & Knowlton to put on a phony dog & pony show about "babies being tossed out of incubators" in Kuwait City. Most of the American public saw this on evening news and were convinced. Congress was convinced. And, embarrassingly, Amnesty International was convinced. Within months, the hoax was exposed. Amnesty International had to issue a retraction on its protest regarding the fictitious babies. (BTW, the royal family daughter of the Kuwaiti ambassador who posed as the candy-striper was paid $2 MM for her impersonation and lies. Nice work when you can get it, eh?)

So, today, human rights groups are much more skeptical of propaganda items like this being foisted on an unsuspecting public by the flaks at Hill & Knowlton (the Department of Death's Victoria Clarke is a H & K alumni) or John Rendon & Associates.

We are much more weary and wary of the lies of official Washington than we were 12 years ago. This time around we assume that anything the Bush team says is a lie.
