it was more than likely as a result of something planned and coordinated and not something that the military necessarily had control of.

All decisions come from Rumsfeld's office and the military has to like it or lump it. If there was any coordination that is where to look.

I still think the most likely scenario is that Rumsfeld ordered that the looting of government buildings not be stopped. This was to ensure that the Iraqi people would be dependant upon American aid and administration and could not get a stable bureacracy setup faster than suited the Amercian agenda. The museums just got caught up in that more general order.

I don't know how to explain any coordination between our forces and the looters without scaring myself even more.
