i can't prove it, but i think the fact that the fastest and deepest interest rate cutting spree since 1929/30 has so far failed to lift the markets and the economy out of their respective funks is a strong indication that the pool of real funding is already stagnating or declining in the US as well.
and i fully agree that the Fed will continue to compound its errors to the point were things will take a dramatic turn for the worse, after one miscalculation too many. but until then, we're probably in for Japanese style muddle through...i.e. mild recoveries (mainly due to the inventory cycle) interrupting a process of slow, secular decline.
