One more thought on the conference call and the LS-120. KE was asked how they compare the products when talking to OEMs. He said price was by for the number one point. But secondly, speed is important.

The reason for this is that it takes a long time to write to and fill up a 1.44Mb floppy. The Zip and LS-120 are 70 and 80 times bigger. You MUST have better speed just to make this capacity useful.

Also, KE mentioned that they don't think you can run multimedia files from the LS-120. Too slow.

Tom: in re your post. I think we need to separate Compaq from the Compaq/MKE/Imation troika. I don't know how much money Compaq put into developement of the LS-120, but they are in a much different position from the other two.

MKE will be the LS-120 manufacturer. Imation will produce the disks. *Compaq is their only OEM! * This means that MKE expects to make money on the drives, Imation on the disks. But Compaq is expecting to make money selling computers with a superior removable storage drive.

Compaq can also do this shipping the Zip and Jaz drives. They will only loose their investment in LS-120 developement.
