M2 has effectively been called off, that's the word from the new owners. They will continue development, but the focus is on the MediaGX product line. The K6 had terrible yield problems which hopefully are being overcome, just as prices for Pentium class (previous generation) CPUs are in a virtual free-fall. Intel is now going back to the future, too, with a Pentium II for standard PCI architecture, and you have Thomson getting into this space as well. It's getting pretty darn crowded in the low-end, and IDTI still hasn't convinced anybody they can make their chip in volume for less money, rest assured it would have to be more than a token discount. Speaking of rest, I don't think NOT buying IDTI is going to cause me to loose any.
