Yes, I am an American and I am optimistic by nature.

Where I differ from many who are polled is that I attempt to keep myself informed.

Look at the details of the poll results from NYTimes.

"Americans overwhelmingly consider the war in Iraq a success, and a majority say the victory will stand even if Saddam Hussein remains at large or if the United States fails to unearth chemical or nuclear weapons."

Now ask yourself, who is going to say the war is a failure when the army kicks butt while sustaining few casulties? To say it is a failure would be to imply that Saddam won, that is patently absurd. There is no way to answer such a question with "This war was was not necessary" or even "This war did not accomplish it's initial objectives of destroying WMDs". That makes polls of this nature inherently skewed.

A similar majority also thinks that Saddam attacked the World Trade Center. The majority of American people are sadly uninformed.
