I like to trade like Robert. Get in and hold on.
I think the secret to holding long term is to not take a loss. That means trading without stops. You have to have the cash to ride out a down move. It also means going long most of the time. You must buy a commodity near the all time lows. Look at some long term charts and select commodities near 30 - year lows.

Some of the premium burns can get quite nasty though if it takes over a year. I have been in coffee for about 16 months. My account always seems to show an open equity of about -$4000 here. BUT once every 3-4 months coffee will rally up and I can roll it over for about $100 profit and buy more time. So my net result in my cash account is 3 $100 trades and I'm still holding. I dont make a trade unless it puts cash in my account, if possible.

I'll make another post and talk about a couple of markets and some other techniques you can use. ie options and spreading and scale trading.
