I've read your answer with care and I am not satisfied yet:

Because I wish your answer would satisfy any and all Iraki that breathes more freely now. They are in the balance here. They and possibly the next nation... let's say the North Koreans.

Breathing freely, not having a dictatorship, that is the value, the long lasting historical one.
Not the oil (leftist argument, nor even the WMD, rightist argument).

And history has shown us more than once that the US are good at bringing it.
At a marginal cost, if/when possible.

Of course freedom comes with a death toll.
But Koweit, Afghanistan and Irak are damn cheap (for all sides) compared to Germany and Japan.

And you still object, even if draped in your flag, (as a shield?)

So why shouldn't America extent (for moral reasons) the precious "reverence for life" you mention so well to those who are suffering, if she can afford the risk and costs; especially when we know that no one else can do the job ?
