Kennedy's weak posture with the Russians emboldened them to try and place nuclear missiles in Cuba. Just like Carter's weak posture with the Russians emboldened them to invade Afganistan. Kennedy also agreed to a plan to "liberate" Cuba from communism and at the last minute he wimped out on the fight and it cost men their lives who depended on him to follow through militarily. And it was the mob who lost the most when Cuba was lost. They lost their gambling casino's and whore houses. Joe Kennedy made his fortune running booze during prohibition and had links to the mob. Then got respectable afterwards. Some think his son's assassination was a mob operation. For not getting Cuba back? Mere speculation.
