I believe I said a while back : expect 3 years or so, to get a representative government with constitutional, security and judicial institutions getting going.

True "Jeffersonian democracy" : I expect 1 generation.

The Brits realised these challenges, and planned their withdrawal over decades. The US has never had a colony/empire, and therefore IMO lacks some expertise in this respect.
