Democracy? Hard to say. Tough to define.

OK. Some agreement here on the tough to define front.

was it a year ago or so that they were firebombing trains and torching mosques in Gujarat. Is that wrong?

Yes those incidents happened. and yes that was wrong. It was a riot situation similar to the LA riots a few years ago. Whats the difference ?

I recall reading comments to the effect that that every Indian muslim is a potential Pakistani agent, etc.

Let me give you a personal example to dispel that thought: My neighbor and friend from the time I knew to talk, practices the Muslim faith. I dont practice any faith, but I was born in a Hindu family. Me and other friends (Hindus, Muslims, Parsees, Christians, Sikhs) have been to every wedding at my friend's place. Most of us (including me) have also participated in the funereal proceedings of my friend's father and mother. The story about cordial living regardless of religion, is much longer, but I dont think its worth detailing on this thread.
