Aloha LB: "When we have a war, the Preachers reach for the old Testament.

"Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" (Matthew 5:43).

By its very definition CHRISTianity (the belief in Christ or Messiah Yeshua as prophesied in the Old Testament) distinguishes itself by the events described in the New Testament. Without the New Testament, Christianity would be no different than Judaism, since both share common belief in the Old Testament.

Yahweh of the Old Testament was sometimes vengeful ("an eye for an eye") whereas Christ taught grace, pray for your enemies, etc. Yahweh tried the vengeance route in the Old Testament but He found it failed with the human race since we are so prone to disobey His Will anyway...no matter what the consequences are. Fortunately, He thought better of it by sending His Son as described in the New Testament to give us grace only by asking for it.

Believe it or not, my pastor has been reminding us to pray for our enemies since 9/11. He is not alone. Just check out a few of the 1380 hits here:
