They do win, and so consistently I wonder why. Is it the lack of other sports options (so that the best athletes go into running)? Something specific about the training regimen? Or something genetic perhaps?

I've been enjoying reading this thread. Some of these guys were before my time but I remember Lasse Viren and Pre. Growing up I mostly watched the shorter long-distance guys like Dave Wottle (with those fantastic comebacks in the 880 and that goofy golf cap), Shorter, Liquori...

The weather up here isn't quite warm enough for me to run outside yet, so I'm stuck on a 10-lap-to-the-kilometer indoor track. Hopefully next week.
