I'm afraid the news isn't _quite_ that good.

While the movie studios and the video-player manufactures are now (nearly)
on the same page, the real show stopper is the lack of agreement on copy protection
for the DVD-ROM hardware. The movie-folks and the PC-folks are far from
agreement on this issue. If the studios can't force the PC industry around to their way
of thinking, the studios won't put their films out on DVD. And if there are no films,
there'll be no DVD-decks...agreement or no.

The recent agreement pertains only to the home video decks. There's never been
much of a conflict there anyway. The real sticking points are regarding DVD-ROM
and DVD-Audio.
