It is Victoria..POP 250K... not Vancouver..POP 1000K.. that is behind the times in its waste management process. That,however, is finally being addressed,along with the two other cities,Halifax and St.Johns,that are in the process of finally addressing this issue.
But in its defense regarding sewage treatment :

Don't know where the US is,but probably in that 60% - 70% range.
But you are right about the Pacific NW fishery interests,it is a bone of contention and I support their position, however,it is far behind more important and influential issues that have been cited over the years regarding clear cutting of forests that clog up small streams and diversion of fish spawning waterways that's prolific in the US North West.
I think all countries need to do more,Canada and the US included,to clean up the environment for our children and grandchildren and their children,but every time the environment is brought up here and elsewhere,it is either dismissed to the backwaters cranial exposure or subjugated to outcries of eco-terrorist, tree - hugging,save-the-planet-anti-war types that the bidness community and some elected officials would have you relegate to the whims of mere fanaticism.
I find it interesting when John C. finds a morsel of anti-Canadian information and is quick to highlight it in defense of your current administration’s anti-environmental policies.Quite amusing actually.I guess it is all in line with the “ even when Bush is wrong he is right “ state of transcendental medication that Americans are being exposed to these days. |
